Roy Clifford Levitt, M.D. is clinical professor, Vice Chairman, Translational Research, Department of Anesthesiology, Human Genetics and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. He is a practicing chronic pain physician with over 35 years of experience as a scientist-entrepreneur-business leader. He has >25 years in pharmaceuticals innovation and development including CEO of a clinical-stage NASDAQ biotechnology company and senior leadership in commercial operations at global biopharmaceuticals company across multiple therapeutic areas. Dr. Levitt is the founder of Onspira Therapeutics, where he served as CSO and board member that was sold to Sumitomo in 2019. In Academia, he has pursued genetic approaches to identify novel biomarkers of susceptibility, therapeutic response, and non-opioid analgesics for chronic pain. He has co-authored >150 peer-reviewed publications, clinical protocols, and selected FDA filings; and received >25 patents. He recently founded Adolore BioTherapeutics, Inc, focused on developing non-opioid analgesics for treating chronic pain. Currently, he serves as PI/PD on NIH, NINDS, HEAL UH3 NS123964 entitled: “Disease Modifying Analgesia with CA8 Gene Therapy”. This NIH Award is focused on developing non-opioid analgesic gene therapy to treat moderated-to-severe chronic pain due to knee osteoarthritis.
