Dr. Liu is an engineer-neurosurgeon who works at the interface of the two disciplines to develop transformative solutions to restore function to the nervous system.He received his BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and PhD in Chenical/Bioengineering from Rice University, and his MD from Yale University. He is currently appointed as Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at USC, with secondary appointments in Psychiatry, Surgery, Urology, Biokinesiology, and Biomedical Engineering. He is the founding director of the USC Neurorestoration Center and is a visiting associate at Caltech, where he collaborates with multiple PI’s to bring transformative technologies into humans. He serves at the Chief of Innovation and Research and Director of the RLA Neurorestoration Center. In addition, Dr. Liu serves at the Medical Director of the Casa Colina Research Institute. Dr. Liu also serves at the Director of the USC Epilepsy Care Consotrium, a unique partnership of 11 epilepsy centers in Southern California that serves as a living laboratory to better understand the systems-levels barriers to epilepsy care in our region. His collaborative work has been featured in local, national, and international print, online, and broadcast media and has been published in high impact journals.
