Dr. Castaño currently works in the field of Functional Urology at the CES University Clinic in Medellin, Colombia. He completed his residency in urology at the same university in 2005. He has been working on educational projects for the Colombian Urology Society, and is currently the director of the reconstructive urology section of this society. He has also been actively involved in the International Continence Society (ICS) as a member of the Neuro-Urology Promotion Committee and the School of Neuro-Urology. He currently holds the position of membership and international relations for the Americas of the SIU Board of Directors(Societe Internationale dÚrologie)
His field of action focuses mainly on the treatment of men and women with functional and anatomical alterations of the lower urinary tract and who present with urinary incontinence or urinary retention
Dr. Castaño is internationally recognized for his work related to Neuromodulation and Neurostimulation in idiopathic and neurogenic dysfunction of the lower urinary tract. For the past 15 years he has dedicated his work to the development of surgical techniques for the implantation of neuroprostheses for bladder control in patients with spinal cord injuries and currently has the greatest experience in the implantation of these in America.
