Dr. Ashwini Sharan is the Chief Medical Officer for Medtronic Neuromodulation, a role he has held since June 2022. He helps shape the strategic direction of innovation, evidence planning, physician-society relations, and educational initiatives. He also serves as a medical advisor and collaborates with the medical community to identify business opportunities. Additionally, Dr. Sharan is a part-time Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University. A board-certified neurosurgeon with over 22 years of experience, he has performed over 8,000 surgeries and treated more than 25,000 patients. He mentored 33 residents and 8 fellows, many of whom have pursued academic careers. Dr. Sharan is a leader in functional neurosurgery, particularly epilepsy surgery, and has a strong interest in spine surgery, deep brain stimulation, intrathecal pumps, and spinal cord stimulators. He has co-investigated three NIH grants on topics like MRI safety for DBS patients and the genetic influences of epilepsy. His work has been published in top medical journals. Dr. Sharan has served as Past President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) and is a founder of several neuromodulation companies, including Cerebral Therapeutics and Mudjala Medical.
